Surgery / Dentistry

Surgery

Surgeries are performed in a separate surgical suite. The doctors and technical staff practice standard aseptic techniques when performing surgery. This means that the surgeons wear surgical gowns, masks, and sterile gloves and use surgical drapes and instruments that are heat-sterilized. A sterile surgical pack is used on each surgical case; we do not share surgical packs among our patients.

When appropriate, we administer postoperative pain medication for our patient's comfort. When necessary, we utilize a recovery cage with heated floors to assist in postoperative recovery.

Routine surgeries include spays, neuters, lacerations, and skin growths. Soft tissue surgeries include abdominal exploratories to remove foreign bodies, liver biopsies and bladder surgeries (stone removal).

Anesthetics (isoflorane) provided are state-of-the-art. We also have high-tech monitoring equipment, including EKG, blood pressure, end tidal C02 (respiratory), and pulse oximetry.

Patients are placed in cages with heated floors as they recover and are watched carefully until they fully recover. Intravenous fluid support is offered and sometimes required.

Standard of Care - Heat sterilized instrument packs. Our surgeons use sterile surgical gowns, masks, and gloves for each surgical case.

Blood testing prior to any anesthetic procedure is available and recommended.

Dentistry

Yes, animals require dental care too. Routine cleaning and polishing of teeth is performed under a safe general anesthetic. Our patients are intubated and maintained on isoflurane, one of the safest inhalant gases available. One of the doctors will supervise the cleaning of the teeth. If any additional care or diagnostics are needed, we'll call the owner and discuss the treatment plan.

Dental care includes routine teeth cleaning and exams. We use ultrasonic scaling, perform polishing, and apply fluoride and sealants. We have a dental unit with low and high-speed hand pieces for endodontics and polishing. Dental X-rays are also available, as needed.

In-House Laboratory

We have on-site equipment for running blood work to fully evaluate your pet's health. For the tests we do not have on-site, we work with a national veterinary diagnostic laboratory for state-of-the-art testing.
